Tank was up and running on April 20th of this year, so it's still a new tank. I have read that Cyano Algae is just part of having a new tank. Also the rock I used was the dry rock so I know phosphates are leaching out and that's (what I'm guessing) is the main cause. I also have a Phosban 150 reactor that has been running since day 1 on the tank.
My question is - how long do I have to ride this out?
Right now I'm doing daily maintenance on physically removing it (it's too heavy to pickup with the water siphon so been using the fish net and rake to remove it from my sand). Basically I do cleanup on a section of the tank every day and been changing between 10-20 gallons of water per day. Plan is to just keep doing a section a day then once I'm done start at the beginning again. The rock that can be moved I take out of the tank and brush off the algae into a bucket, the rock that I can't move I brush it off and do my best to use the water siphon to suck it up (as mentioned above, does a poor job of this despite being hooked up to a slop sink and having rather good water pressure).
Granted this is only the 2nd day I've been doing this, so just kinda wondering if this phase lasts 3-4 weeks or 3-4 months. I guess it all depends on when the dry rock will stop leaching phosphates? There's 80 lbs of rock in the tank and it's been running for 4 months now.
Tank is 72g Bowfront and I use RO water.
