Cyano/Diatoms and cleaning sand

I'm recently going through a little cyano or diatom bloom, and have read up slot about treatment and such. So I've been taking it of the sand and putting it into a jug with a fork, like a little zen gardener haha. My question is, can I thoroughly clean that jug sand, wait for it to dry, then ad it back in every so often? Will this have any I'll effects?

You can certainly do that if you want without problems..
Just keep rinsing it until its as clean as you can get it and let it dry in the sun then back into the tank it can go..

Awesome. I would have hated to throw it away and end up bare bottom. Thanks

Just removing it will not rid your system of cyano, removal is just a bandaid if not coupled with corrective measures. It is being fed by something. If it is cyano, it could be as simple as increasing flow in the tank, or you could be over feeding, have issues with your WC water, etc. Keep removing it manually, but work on finding and correcting the cause too.

If you are having a diatom bloom, it is pretty normal, especialy in new systems, and will usually clear up pretty quickly on it's own.

I'm pretty sure it's Diatoms but not 100%. My nitrates are undetectable and I only feed 2x a day and make sure they eat it all. I do use tap water with prime for WC but I've been doing that for a year already and it's been fine. I was going to do a lights out thing but I'm worried my anemone might start running around to find the light.

2times a day can imho be a bit much and remember even though your only feeding small amounts twice a day the fish still poop it right back into the tank so if it were I I’d cut back on feeding and maybe throw in a extra water change if you can but even with that be careful gotta find that balance
