Cyano help needed

I have been battling an outbreak of cyano in my 12 gal nano for the past several weeks. I have 2 powerheads in there, a Koralia and a smaller one. Also, the 2 arms that are coming off the return pump in the chamber in the back of the tank are pointed to supply extra flow. I have PhosBan and Charcoal in the back chambers, all to no avail. Almost daily I am having to rake it up and remove it off the sand as well as blow off the little bit that is on my LR. I had this problem in my 3 pico a while back and I ended up taking everything out and rinsing the sand really good and putting it back in the tank and have had no more cyano since. I really hate to do this with the 12, but may have to. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I watch how much I feed the Clown and Pixie Hawk in the 12 and have snails and hermits in there as CUC. TIA.

Vickie, whenever I get it bad. I try to limit the time my lights are on and maybe miss a day of feeding. This usually helps some. I never have that problem in my 55 but I have tons of the snails that bury through the sand and a sand star. My sand is really clean. Its the 75 that I have problems with but I tend to overfeed.

I battled it for some time until I read about the 3 day lights out period. I tried that and it was gone. A couple of weeks later it started to reappear and I did the 3 day blackout again. That took care of it. Almost too simple.

i use red slime remover by chemiclean and 2 or 3 days later, there is not a spec left.

agree 3 days no lights then very limited run time for 1 day then back off 2 more then rinse! lol water change!
