i'm getting really bad cyano in my 24g nano cube that my 4in or so peacock mantis is living in. i just added more flow to the tank but it just seems to be making the cyano more stringy, there are bubbles too and it's getting on my corals. i've been keeping up with my water changes, and according to my lfs i was doing too many water changes. what's a good water change schedule and will a good skimmer for a nano cube help? i don't know which one is good to get and that will fit in one of the compartments in the tank since i can't hang anything off the tank. thanks so much for any help

i dont think you need a skimmer to take care of the cyano. how old is the tank? i had the same issue in my peacock tank and after a little while it just seemed to clear up i do 10% water changes weekly on all my tanks

it's about three months old or more, and i though i had already gone through the algae bloom, i used a lot of water and rocks from established tanks so it cycled really quickly. i was doing 10% water changes weekly and i was told that's too much new water entering a system without being given enough time to cycle.

10% weekly is def not too much and as far as the tank being 3 months old i have had tanks go thru algae blooms up to almost a year old and you still ocasionally have them after that i would just wait it out. hit it with a turkey baster to loosen it up and suck it out when you clean and do water changes. i have always had multiple tanks and always do 10% water changes and have never heard anyone say that 10% weekly is too much

ok good to know, i'll go back to the 10% weekly cuz i feel more comfortably doing that too and it seemed to be working so far i guess.
