Is adding the dirty filter pads from the other tank a bad idea? Would that nastiness decay and create ammonia?

I wish I could give you some of mine. Ace hardware only had gallon jugs when in reality I needed like a few drops. I'm case you didn't know make sure the ammonia doesn't contain surfactants.

I would think so. Or ghost feed the tank. However, with ghost feeding I'm not sure how long it takes for the ammonia to show up. When you add straight ammonia it's more controlled because you can keep track of exactly how much you added.
