Cyano

What is the best test(s) to run to see if organics are too high? I have a little cyano in the tank but I'm unsure as to what is causing it. If there are test I can run on the water quality I would much rather fix that than add chemicals.

Here is a thread I started a while back on cyano, maybe you can find some info here to help you. As for tests, I would look for phosphate and nitrate, not sure if there is a test kit for organics, maybe an ORP meter?
