Cyano

I have a small Red Slime outbreak in my tank. I have increased flow to the infected area, cleaned my skimmer and made sure that it is running efficiently. I have replaced all my T5HO bulbs with new. Cutting back on feeding.

My question is: Should I cut back on my light cycle which is 12 hours long right now?

I'm in your boat Jim. I have a small outbreak happening as well. I've done everything you have as well except change my lightbulbs (they are only 6 month old MH).

I was reading a thread by Sk8r about doing 3-4 days of darkness. I haven't made changes to my photoperiod yet, but I also haven't solved the cyano problem. I've vacumed it out several times, but it keeps coming back. I just put a Koralia 3 pointed right at the spot. Let's see what happens.

Neither of you mentioned how frequently and what percentage of water changes you are doing, along with water parameters. :(

I just got to the office, where my tank is, and the sand has shifted a little due to the Koralia I pointed at the remains of the vacumed cyano. I'm hoping the increased flow helps hold down any additional growth... Let's see
