Cyanobacteria

Grr this red slime is annoying! I'm trying to resist buying chemicals to get rid of it but am not sure what else to do. Am going to do a big water change tomorrow, probably 50 percent which is about 50 litres. Will syphon out as much of it as I can. Any other tips? Am close to buying chemiclean but it's only in USA.
Everything else in the tank is doing well, soft corals are growing, have new corraline algae growth on rocks and glass, fish appear healthy as do inverts.

I have had success with cyano combat via reducing PO4 levels to almost undetectable level using an algae turf scrubber and some GFO. I used a Hanna Checker that reads in PPB. Nothing else was ever effective at eradicating it to undetectable levels. Good luck.

I did the lights out for 3 days but a week later it came right back. I used chemiclean combined with siphoning some out and 2 days lights out back in January. Have not had it since and ALL fish, inverts and corals are all fine. If I ever get it back I will have no hesitation using it again.

Chemiclean worked great for me. No ill effects with the corals/inverts. Just remember find the source of the problem. Chemiclean will be just a Band-Aid and keep those phosphates down.

I attempted tank black out for 48 hours which reduced Cyano for 1 week then it was back stronger than ever.

I treated with UltraLife per directions. Once again, 1week and it was back.

Tried Chemiclean same results as other attempts.

I beat Cyano by changing my filter sock every 2 days minimum and 15% water change every week. After 2 months of that schedule I have not had Cyano in 6 months.

I've used chemiclean twice with great results. Have not tried the no lights method, but people on the forums have had success with it.
