Cycle done?

I got some rock off a fellow Mars member. Apparently the rock was still cycling, however after putting it in my quarantine tank i have been unable to dedect any nitrates/ nitrites or even ammonia. It has only been two weeks. Do you think it is ready?

I used water from my display to fill the quarantine tank and put a spare bio-wheel on the Q-tank that i had in my display tank.

Any thoughts?

Besides the bio-wheel what do you have in the q-tank for water circulation? What size q-tank, how much rock, and what else is in the Q-tank?

Cycling rock usually needs good circulation and skimming to remove the DOC's helps. Further, I would try to blast the rock with a clean (preferably tank specific) turkey baster to ensure and detritus in the rock's holes is flushed out as well.

Good Luck.

The rock seems to be really well scrubbed.

Probably not more than a pound.

For circulation, the ten gallon tank has two emperor 400 hang on filters.

There is nothing else in the tank except some Chaeto.

Four weeks with no fish sharing water with it. That will allow any possible Crypto (marine ich) or other parasites or flatworms to die off. Keep an eye on it, with lights on and when they are off to watch for any critters that might have hitched a ride.
