Its been about 15 years since I ran a marine tank and decided to give it another go. Here are my tank stats and a question.
Coralife 29g Bio Cube
20lbs live sand
26lbs dry rock
7 lbs live rock
Temp: 79F
PH: 8.2
Salinity 0.026
Filter media is carbon only with the "In Tank" channel system.
1 - Hydor Power head
Timer on lighting.
Week 1: Added one dead shrimp and began using microbacter (1cap per day)
Week 2: Ammonia spike - 8.0ppm (removed dead shrimp midweek)
Nitrite 5.0ppm Nitrate 20ppm
Week 3: Day 21: Ammonia 0, Nitrite 5.0ppm, Nitrate 40ppm
Visual difference because there is a thin layer of brown algea on the sand bed, rocks and some spotting on glass. The water is clear.
Wondering if I should boost the Ammonia of wait/do nothing until the nitrite come down.
What I have gathered is that the Nitrate will eventually drop and that I should do a big water change and add my cleanup crew.
Thanks in advance
