Cycling Marco Rocks

I'm in the process of setting up a new tank and do want to use live rock from the LFS. I'm looking to avoid unwanted hitchhikers so I order some Marco rocks.

My plan is to place them in a rubbermaid tub with a heater and power head for about 6 weeks. I will also be adding a cup of live sand from my current tank into the tub to help start the cycle.

After the 6 weeks, I will transfer the rocks into my new tank along with new live sand and home mixed salt water. Let that cycle for another 6 weeks. Add livestock if parameters are dialed.

Is there any else I'm missing? I haven't dealt with uncured rocks before so I wanted to double check with ya'll.

Thanks for your input :bum:

Technically you can make it easier. On the marco rocks there is very little organic matter on/in the rocks. I would cycle the rocks just long enought to ensure the ammonia is gone 10-14 days and then set the tank up. After you put the rock in the tank wait 2-3 weeks before you add livestock. Slowly add your livestock a little at a time.

That's what Marco rocks is claiming on their website about the rocks being pre-cycled. The rocks should be arriving on Tuesday. Hopefully I won't see much dead organics upon inspection.

Thanks GR82!
