Cycling my new tank

I just wanted to know what the consensus was on keeping the lights onwhile cycling a tank or not?

i have around 40 pds of LR and 120 pds of base rock, basically in hopes that the base rock will once again become live. so i wanna know how long to cycle?

also should i keep the lights on so that coraline algea grows or will it grow regardless of lighting ?

I let mine cycle for 3 weeks with no lights on then 1 more week with lights on.

Coralline needs light to grow. So does nuisance algae.

I let mine cycle with the lights on for 4 hours/day.

cool thanks guys.. i will do the 2-3 weeks with the lights off, except in the fuge and then 2 weeks with em on before adding any live stock.
