Cycling new 125 gallon tank

Hello everyone,

I have have 55 gallon of mixed reef with fish tank for the past 3 years, and now upgrading to 125 gallon.

Last night I had about 65 gallon of 125 gallon tank water and started with cycle by adding 40lbs of cured and cleaned pukani live rocks (from premium aquatics), installed 250xf gyro pump, etc. I still have about 45-50lbs live rocks, manado beautiful rocks that I don't want to lose, and it's in my old 55 gallon tank, but I first need to clean it as I let it be overgrown with some brown "mushrooms" that literally cover all rocks and even pumps. So, here my two questions:

1. Will adding the rest of 25 -35 gallons of water later tonight do something bad to the tank that probably already started with cycle as today?

2. How can I safely add these live rocks from my 55 gallon after cleaning them from these "mushrooms" on it, but not to "crash" the cycle of tank? Can I just cleaned them good, wash and put them in new tank with my pukani live rocks...

I'd appreciate any help!

Best,
Almir

Hi
1) adding saltwater shouldn't even affect your new tank unless its full of ammonia or nitrites....
2) depends how you clean your rocks and if you let stuff 'die'.
I'm guessing only, but if you clean your old rocks in tank water, don't use tap water, then I'm sure its fine, since it will help seed your new pukani. If you leave a ton of 'dead' mushroom bits in the rock, then you might get ammonia from the die off.

Adding freshly made saltwater will not affect your new cycle.
Do a nice water change on the 55 and save the water.
Scrub your old rocks in that water, to avoid a mess in the 55.
Do not rinse in fresh water, even RO/DI, as this will lead to die off.
You can then add those rocks to the 125. The bacteria on them will help your new tank get cycled.

Thanks a lot for this advice. I hope this won't effect negatively cycle in new tank but help.

So, while scrubbing old rocks in saltwater from 55 galllon, I should not take those rocks out of water at all, not even for a little period of time, right?
