Cycling on a hypo tank

If I transfer some of my bio media from my display tank to a quarantine, will hypo affect the bacteria at all? And if so, how so?

Anybody?

I did a search for this and found controversy over whether hypo will kill nitrifying bacteria. It either does or it doesn't.

It will kill off some of the bacteria, but not enough to impair your biofiultration. I've succesfully performed hypo on a few occassions by moving a hang on filter from my sump to a Q tank. hth

Did you acclimatize and if so for how long?

I suspect fish take the rapid lowering of salinity better than bacteria. I keep an ready supply of mature bio filter in the sump and when I setup a QT I start off with the same salinity as the ST - transfer the bio filter media - add the fish - then take a couple of days to lower the salinity.
