Cycling question

Pretty much it is a very tight fit to get it into my first chamber of my sump. There is an overflow lip that hangs over into my sump from where the tank over flows into. Whenever my I leave my collection cup off the skimmer it overflows onto that lip and then onto my stand.

There is a overhang where the overflow goes into those micron filters in the picture. So it goes onto that over hang and then out of the sump.

That what I was assuming but not 100% sure, If you run with the cup on the Vertex make sure the drain is open as water is still going to run into the cup. If the cup gets to full it will still run out the top 4 holes of the skimmer and on to your floor.

Maybe a larger sump is in order? I run my tank with a 50g underneath which I thought was overkill at first but Its all being used. Space is still limited lol

Ok thank you guys. Another question I have is can I go ahead and put algea in the sump?

No need for it right now. On a side note from looking at your pic all that egg crate that your skimmer is sitting on is going to become a detritus nightmare. I would take it out and just use the top one with some PVC legs to set your height.
