I have a bucnch of rock that I will be cycling to replace some gsp covered rock. If I use some of the covered rock ( as live rock) will the cycle kill it (I hope) and not seed the new rock

yeah it will seed the new rock, unless your using uncured rock though your ammonia won't rise much. using base rock you prob. won't see much of a cycle but will take a while for it to become live.

If you just throw the GSP covered rock in with a bunch of base rock you'd eventually seed the base rock, but with little to no decaying matter in the tank, it'd take a while. If you have harvested live rock (or any live rock that has some die off) that needs to be cycled then adding the GSP rock, IMO, won't prove to be that useful. I doubt it would die, as it's a pretty hardy little thing, and it would have little effect on your cycle time. If the GSP covered rock is your only source of seeding the new rock, then you'll have such a small ammonia spike, if any at all, that the GSP won't die off. Either way, there's not much benefit from adding the GSP rock, unless you need it, or want it, for the aquascaping.
