Cycling with current tank water question

Howdy - I just picked up a 55 gallon. I currently have a sweet 55 running for a year, all is swell. I want to start propagating my good corals using all the spare parts I've collected. If I dump 25 gallons from my main tank, about 10 pounds of live rock, and fill the rest with rodi saltwater, will it be ready to go?

Thanks in advance

Without testing there is no answer. I would transfer over everything then wait 24 hours and test, if no ammonia then your good to go. The water your trasfering wont do much for the cycle but if all your putting in is the 10lbs of already cured lr and no new rock you most likely wont have a problem

No, the cycle isn't the water it's the bacteria and they live on the rocks. If you move water in from your other tank all you've done is add used water. You still have to wait until the tank is able to clear ammonia.

After rereading the lr your adding will most likely go though a cycle unless that is comming from your other tank.

Yeah, that sounds right. I know I should be patient - it's just not my strong point. Odd hobby to become obsessed with...

Depends on how much LR youre adding. You could add some extra rock to the original sump to seed the new tank. I'd watch the parameters daily and add some Chromis after a week if everything still looks good. Then slowly add other fish. Don't assume you can add everything right off the bat

If the LR you add is from your existing tank or fully cured in another tank there won't be any cycle... no reason to think you'll have die-off. You can use all new water, all water from existing DT or any combination. It will all be fine.
