D40 -vs- D700

What do you guys have to say with these two. It seems to me the D40 is the best buy in the small sensor, it makes no sense to get the others until you get to the D700 with the full format.

How well do they do on our tanks/coral/fish??

Also which lense is best for each of these ??

This is like comparing a minivan vs. a big rig. Two different bodies that cater to two different crowd. The D40 is great if portability, budget, and simplicity are of utmost importance. The D700 is larger and heavier body-wise, but its low light ISO is amazing, and it's FX format.

It's all about needs. If you only shoot basic fish tank shots, the D40 is all you need. If your shooting style requires that you get down low for macros of insects, etc, then the swivel LCD of the D5000 will help tremendously. If you're a sports or wildlife shooter who requires a DX body with fast FPS, the D300 will suit this need. If you're set on getting the D40 but need more MP for cropping, then maybe you have to consider the D40x or the D60.

Very well, especially if you use a tripod.
Any macro lens should work well.
