D90 or D200

Two different sized bodies....both have lots of features....D90 is newer than D200....D90 has more MP than D200....tough call. Some would say go for the newest body, hence D90. Some would say go with a great proven body that is at a steal of a price now that it has been replaced by several other bodies, hence D200.

Personally, I would say D200 just because I really love mine but I wouldn't be surprised if the majority said D90. The fact that the D90 has a CMOS sensor versus the D200 having a CCD would be a major factor to consider (CMOS being better than CCD).

I agree with VR on the D200, but it's because it's what I have also. I would say to go and put them both in your hand and see which feels better.

If you're dead set on Live View or shooting video you have to go with the D90. If not, when you pick both up and feel them, the D90 may feel more like a toy.

good points, im not at all interested in the vid aspect, looking for a solid camera. Like the cmos on the 90 but like the rugged build of the 200. Im leaning tword the 200 price is great to $700.

I just picked up a D90, and think it's great. I'm certainly no expert (have it 2 days now), but I'm really loving it. I don't know much about the 200, but the 300 was overpriced compared to the 90 when I was going through my purchasing decision.

My opinion? D200. Get it at Best Buy for $599 (online closeout) and buy an 18-70 or 16-85 for the extra cash you saved.

D90:
-Higher MP
-uses the same Sony image sensor as D300
-has video (still very buggy, imo)
-plastic body
-no weatherseal
-scene modes(digital vari programs)
- screw drive AF
- has live view

D200
- 10 MP
- Intervalometer
- Magnesium Alloy body
- weathersealed
- no scene modes
- memory banks (settings)
- easily accessible buttons for most functions
- no live view
