damn urchin

my long spin urchin ate my skunk cleaner shrimp i came home and found the urchin on top of my cleaner shrimp and the shrimp was trying to get away but to late it was getting stung by its long sipnes could this be possible. would like to hear some input.:crazy1:

How big is your urchine? I have one in my tank about half an inch accross. Hopefully I don't run into this problem.

The shrimp was already dead/dying or possibly a molt. There is no way that an urchin could "catch" a healthy shrimp. An urchin cannot attack fish or inverts, the spines are defensive and outside pressure must be applied for a sting to take place.

it is about 3" in width and i already got him out this is my second cleaner shrimp he ate the first one i thought died because they were old but when i saw the urchin on top i could not believe my eyes i didn't have a camera handy so i could take a pic of it. right now i took the urchin out and took it to were i bought it from and got store credit. the store owner could not believe what happened to my shrimps.

well i did not believe it either but the shrimp was alive and not molting he was struggling to escape the urchin which had had a good grasp of the shrimp i had to push the urchin off the shrimp but by then the damage was done the shrimp was jerking like it had seizure and then it was dead half of its tail exposed open

I hate my long spine urchin.. He is currently residing in my sump. I don't think urchins are reef safe like they are claimed to be. Zoa eating machines
