Damsel died - Clown worries

I've had the same 30g tank for several years also it has gone through some changes during that time.

I relly loved clownfishes but both sets I got about 3 years ago died (looked like ich). So I purchased a yellow tail damsel instead.

The damsel was the sole inhabitor of that tank for the last three years.

Initially I had some problems with the tank (red slime, etc.) even though I tested (no phosphates, etc.) and used only purified water bought at the store.

The damsel stayed strong through all of this.

A year ago we purchased an RO filtration system for under the sink and since I've been using that water my tank has been great.

Very little algae, no red slime, lots of little bugs on the glass and critters everywhere...

Last week the damsel started hiding for a day or two and eventually disappeard. No body to be found but I have some Mexican redlegs and a small emerald crab in there. No fluctuation in ammonia either.

So... I couldn't resist and purchase two tankraised clownfish (ocellaris). I am kind of a fish minimalist. Since my tank is only 30g I kind of like having just one kind (1 damsel or 2 clowns, etc.)

They are doing great right now and already have cut down on my glass bugs considerably.

But I am really nervous that they may get the same ich that did in my others 3 years ago.

Is there anything I can do to prevent that?

Since the damsel never had ich can I assume that any ich eggs have died off in those 3 years?

i dont think ich can survive that long, they need a host and if your damsel never had ich maybe it disapeared
