I have a damsel in my tank and is niping at my corals all the time. My toadstool can barely extend its polyps cuz my damsel nips at it. Anyone knows a good trick on capturing damsels without having to take all the liverock out?

Have you tried the water bottle trap?

Cut the top 1/4 of a water bottle off, and invert it. Stick some food inside the water bottle and leave it in the tank.

My LFS store got me in the same situation before I knew better I could not catch em for anything I did not try the fish trap though it sounds like its worth a shot.

I fed on the surface a few days till they got used to coming up there to eat with me around and on the 3rd or 4th day i fed em with a net near the food (with the powerheads off) and got em granted it did take 3 or 4 tries. Careful not to over feed just use enough to get em up there it u try. Good luck those things are pure evil with fins!

if you don't want to tear down the tank to catch it, or have the patience for a trap, a small fish hook and line will do the trick.

i say you kill it. by kill i mean, send it back from wence it came! The LFS! It took me FOREVER to catch a rogue damsel. And that was back when i had a 10 gallon nano!

If it's an aggressive feeder, have a net ready when you feed. When it makes the first strike at food near the surface, jab the net into the water and see if you can snag the damsel. Doesn't always work and fish tend to get wise to it with subsequent attempts, but it's worth a shot before getting into more elaborate measures.
