damsels, hippos, eels, and orange soda

Hey everyone. I'm planning a new tank and i want to set up a 40g breeder with seperate 10g sump and in-line 10g fuge. I was just wondering about a few of the livestock i wanted to add.

One-Will blue damsels kill a hippo tang? I know damsels are known to be a bit agressive but if kep in a larger tank would they still stress out a hippo?

Two-I want a snowflake eel in the tank, but i will also most likely need to go open top for the lighting, is there any way to make something like a guard around the rm of the tank to keep the little guy in-or does the whole surface need to be sealed off? --And exactly how "reef safe" is a snowflake anyway?

If anyone has any pics of thier 40g breeder biuld or something similar-like a pic of a tank with damsels, a hippo and an eel not crawling out of the tank-it would be really really cool.

from what iv read and seen around the sight hippos and most tangs in gereral need at least a 90 gallon tank and hippos need at least a 125... on the eels im not sure i dont know much about them but you could use light defuser pannels or eggcrate to put over the top and just seach my 40 gal or 40 gal build or 40 gal theres plenty of theads around hope it helps

Tangs=90 gallons. No acceptions, sorry.

I have had a snowflake in a 55 and he looked cramped to be honest. He was about 15 inches long, and thats not even his max length.

You could keep a juvenile (like 8-10 inches) in there for a couple months at most, but I wouldn't do anything long term.

well first like the others said, forget about ANY tang in a 40 gallon tank...a 40 gallon tank is not "larger" as you put it. 40 is still pretty small (tho imo, its not "nano-tank worthy"...imo nano stops at like 24 :)
So i wouldnt even worry about a damsel hurting the tang.

I'd also forget about worrying about an eel climbing out, cuz a 40 is too small for those as well imo.

but heres my 40 breeder since you wanted to see one. I havent got any recent pics of it, but its got a black per clown pair in it right now. Will prolly have a flame angel in the end, but they're hit or miss as far as reef safe..so i'm taking a chance yes...if it doesnt work out, i'll lose him.

you can try euro-bracing the tank about 3-4in's in from the frame of tank.As for the hippo a think a 40gb will not be big enough maybe for a small juvenile for a little while until you decide to upgrade,and snowflakes are typically not reef-safe.They will not bother corals but they will eat inverts such as shrimp and small fish to.

good luck
