anyone have any tips on how i can catch two damsels out of my tank without taking out the liverock. i just got a red scooter blenny and they are bothering him. i would much rather have the blenny than the damsels so im tryin to get them out. any help much appreciated.

Ok all you gotta do is get a stick and tie a peice of string to it. Tie a hook to the other end, stick a worm to the hook, drop it in the water and wait.

It works I've seen it on TV.

i've been in that boat a few times and i always end up taking most of the rock out to catch a problem fish.

Yeh I crashed my rock trying to catch a stupid jewel damsel because it was being a pain to the other fish....needless to say....it's at mike68's house now!

::UPDATE::

i did have to remove 90% of the rock to catch them. i was kinda frustrated, but o well what else can you do?

so now i have 2 damsels to donate up at UA here in a little while when they open.

I cringe whenever I hear of people putting damsels in their tanks, you just know this scenario will play out eventually

Glad to hear you were able to catch the buggers.

I never ordered them just because of this. If you ever saw them in the store it was a mistake of a wholesaler or someone brought them in to get rid of. Honestly not sure what they are good for.

i guess i've been lucky i have 2 damsels in my display that never bother a thing. i kinda like them they are always out where you can see them and they look good. the offending fish i had was a flame angel. didn't bother a thing for over 2 years then all of sudden it decided it liked clams.

I have had damsels in my 180 from day one. Yellow tail blue damsels, I have 5 of them. In my 180 they have their own pocket of the reef and have never bothered anything. I know that many people use then as starter fish and most of the time I blame the LPS for selling them without telling the newbe that most of them will cause trouble. When a fish is called a blue fiji devil damsel, it is not because it likes the hot sun of fiji. Information is the key in this hobby and it is a shame that some LPS have a lack of that and see more of the $ signs. My 2c.

Local Pet Store = LPS
Local Fish Store = LFS
I reframe from calling out names being as I think we all know who they are.

oh hey come on now.. we're not all bad. I work in a LPS and I've never recommended using blue damsels as starters for that very reason.

mike, i was actually considering a flame angel when i get to the point that i can get an angel. are they bad as far as territory. are they gonna beat up on stuff.

as josh said mine never bothered other fish, and never bothered any corals for 2 years. then it just started nipping at my clams not really sure why.

i have a lemon-peel angel in my 55 and it hates other fish it will chase anything smaller than it is. i haven't seen any evidence of it hurting other fish. it just like to chase them.

I have to agree with you Ade. When I bought my jewel damsel, it was advertised as an angel. I didn't know any better...and the pet store people didn't either because I asked if they were a peaceful fish and they had me waiting for about 5 minutes til they found the manager. Once they came back, they told me that they were fine with other fish. So not only did they give me false information, but it was the wrong labeling of the fish altogether! I only shop at UA or ask friends from now on before I make a purchase.
