do any of you keep damsels in your reef?

i dont mean green chromis or clowns ect, but the ones normally avoided because of their boisterous nature.

if so, which ones and how are they doing? do you regret it?

a pic would be nice if you have one

cheers

Here are mine. I have had them for 2 years You can see my 4 stripe at the top and my blue w/yellow tail at the bottom. sorry pic is a little blurry.

I also had a blue devil but he jumped out in my last tank. I put damsels in the semi-aggressive category. If kept with docile fish like fairy wrasses and firefish they will be nasty. If kept with other semi-aggressive fish like dwarf angels and tangs they will be ok. The blue w/yt is really docile and the 4 stripe is a little nasty. The worst in my tank by far is my tomato clown who is very aggressive towards all my much larger than him tangs. In a tank your size I say you should be fine.

humbug damsel, i dont regret it, its just some days he is aggressive some days he is fine he is mix and match some times

thanks so far. i should say i have a different tank now. its 3ft x 26" wide x 28" high.i need to update my sig.

im thinking of damsels as they are nice and small.

Yellow belly, blue damsels (Azure) are less aggressive than most. I have one in display and four others in QT that will soon be added. So far no problems and they will definitely take up for themselves. I have had them with tangs and angels without problems. They might give smaller fish a problem though. Scott Michael's books are a great resource for choosing fish.

A small Blue Devil damselfish and maroon clown were the first additions to my 75 gal. Since then I've added another maroon to make an almost mated pair (no eggs yet), a Yellow Tang, Lawnmower Blenny, Singapore Angelfish, Mandarin Dragonet & 3 Chromis, one of which is gone. In my naivity, I also attempted a Copperband Butterfly which starved.
At any rate, I really like the striking blue colour of the Blue Devil and it contrasts so well with that of the Yellow Tang. When I added the damsel and clown, they didn't harass each other too much since they were both small and about the same size. The original maroon clown is now the female of the pair and has grown to 3 times original size... the Blue Devil no longer comes near her, the male clown and their BTA! When I introduced the second maroon clown, not only did he have to deal with Clown 1, but he suffered lost a few shreds of fin to the Blue Devil. It was a stressfull month until the Clowns got along and the smaller one was safe in the Anemone with Clown 1. No mistake, the Blue Devil is a scrapper, but currently doesn't create too much havoc unless a Chromis or the Blenny get too close to what he considers his territory. The Tang and Angelfish have no problem with the Damsel since they are significantly larger, the Blue Devil discreetly gets out of their way. Another thing I find useful about the Blue Devil is that I've found him a good guage for feeding. He doesn't overeat, so I can sort of tell by his consumption as to whether I'm overfeeding the tank or not. The female Maroon Clown (Miss Piggy) is a voracious eater whereas the male is picky and seems to eat only Cyclop-Eeze granules.
Bottom line, I like my Blue Devil, he's got spunk & character, striking blue colour and hasn't been directly responsible for the demise of any other tank inhabitants.

I have a blue yellow beiiled damsel. I like him alot. I recently bought a clown to add to the tank and that ended badly. right after the clown was done with is drop and entered the tank the damsel went after him. Long story short the clown was moved to another tank and returned to the LFS. I like the fish alot as i said but in a smaller tank he didn't welcome friends.

I have a yellow tail in my Reef. A model citizen & the mellowest fish in the tank. Also, that electric blue is INTENSE ( sorry, only word that fits.) They GLOW with color. Plus they stay a managable size.

I love my yellow tail!!!! He's perfect, and beautiful! I don't have a good picture of him, so I found this one online that looks very close to him. The blue on them is AMAZING.
