I am having the toughest time witht he QT process. I have lost 4 fish within days of getting them now.

I do a drip acclamation for several hours, and tehn very Salinity is equal...but they do not make it.

I am going to tear down the QT, CLEAN everything, strat it back up, cyclre it with a powerfilter I have in the sump, and see what I can do...

This is getting old!

If I buy the fish, does some one want to QT them for me :-)

what symptoms did they have? rapid breathing, discoloration, were they eating, etc.? are they all purchases from the same LFS?

i'd sterilize the tank with bleach, rinse really well and let it dry out in the sun.

Sorry to hear your lost. I think your quarantine tank is too small. I used to have a quarantine tank but had better luck not having one but putting it straight in my main tank. Knock on wood but I have yet to lose a fish this way. To prevent an ich outbreak I feed my fish food soaked with garlic extract (another hot topic) but it worked for me for the last 7 years. Garlic itself wont work but your water parameters has to be good, fish should be already healthy and eating

Hey Bryan, I used to have the same problem with everything I quarantined. Now what I have done with success is instead of acclimating to my tanks salinity. I have a batch of ro water ready to match the salinity of the fish's water. Sometimes the fish I would buy would be as low as 1.014 and bring it up back to 1.025 would stress them out and die on me. So If I have a ten gallon tank, I fill it about 6 gallons, then start adding the ro water until I get it down to the bag's salinity. After I've done that I drip acclimate to try and match the ph, but since my ph monitor doesn't work anymore I usually let the water double over the couse of an hour- an hour and a half. Then after the fish has been in the tank for a day or so, I empty out some of the water and over the course of a day I drip ro water until I get it down to 1.009. Your supposed to keep it there for about 4 weeks, and then I let the water evaporate to get it back up to 1.025.

...for at least 3 days.

Were there any symptoms?

If you lose otherwise healthy looking fish within a few days with no visible symptoms, I would suspect a) ammonia and/or b) oxygenation issues.

The fish had good color, no external signs of problems.

After she was in the QT she was swimming fine, for 12 hours, but near the bottom, picking at the bottom. Never saw her eat.

This afternoon, she wat on the bottom at a 45 degree angle, but moving a bit... color was off... no longer powder, but more just plue looking.

By this evening, color was off, no longer moving, after dinner, dead.

Ammonia was 0
I have an air stone, moving lots of air, xp3 canister, so lots of flow.

I am going to get a 20 for QT. Claen the xp3, and start cycling with a powerflter soon... grrrr

Nicole, do you have any babies ready?

If you think I can add them to a tank that has been running for 3 months with no fish with out going through qt, I would love a pair

Bryan, you're kidding right? You post a thread that all your fish die and you want me to sell you some?!

Just kidding. If you want misbars I have a few of them big enough to be adopted as long as the flow in the tank isn't too crazy or they at least have a lower flow spot they can rest in.

However, most still have tattered fins from beating the snot out of each other. Last weekend re-did their tank to force them all to crowd together (stops aggression, at least in babies), and their fins are starting to heal up.

If you want to wait, they'll be in better shape in another week or two.

lol

That is why I asked if I can bypass the QT. As long as my fish are in my main tanks all is well. I have a mandrian and a Maroon in the 90, all nice and happy. The Pair will be the the stars in a 15 cube that is plummed in with the 90. One big happy system. Right now there is about 100 gph though the cube. Flow is steady but not strong.

Awww... their very own cube...

Only 100gph? I've got the flow higher than that in the growout tank ;)

Yeah, I think skippy QT would be fine. If they had any communicable diseases or parasites, I should have known by now, and they aren't in a shared system.

Sweet, when is a good time to swing by your place?

100 pgh was a guess... it is currently being fed by a maxijet 900. It will be sharing the output of a QuietOne 3000 with my refuge, if I ever get the darn plumbing done. I have is set with a squid to make a nice surge, hope to put an RBTA in there too... they will be happy campers.

70watt mh enough for an RBTA?

Ohhh... I can get water at Jeff's to :-) Fun for me!

Ask Josh if you can use his QT setup.....worked well for him and he has his last additions (he swears he's done adding to the main tank) in QT for about 2 more weeks....any word from the LFS?

Bryan, oddly enough, I've been having good luck with the QT process.

I've also sucessfully brought several fish back from the brink of death after they became infected/infested.

I can always make space for you. Not that I know what I'm doing, but I do love fish and would give any fish lots of TLC until he is ready to go to his final home.

I will be evacuating my current QT tank in 2 days, (new batch of fish ready for reef tank), at which point I will sanitize it and either store it or set it back up if I have a reason to. Let me know.

Cheers
Josh

hey Bryan, i got a 40G with tank, stand, and canopy that was from petown.

Regular glass tank, no holes drilled or anything. Id let it go for real cheap.

Let me know

-James

PS: hows that C02 regulator, controller, and bottle workin out? :)

James.
My wife would kill me if I bring home another tank.

I have a couple 10 gallon tanks I am using for QT, I might be able to drop a 20 long in and use that instead of the 20. I have enough filter, air and watermovement for a 20.

The CO2, I have not got it running yet, LOL

The Canopy, AutoTopOff, Kalk and CA reactors are next :-)

Jeez
