Dart return mounting ??

Can I mount a dart in a vertical position beside the sump?? I know this is difficult without a visual but what do I need to be concerned with as far a priming and restarts. I'm thinking of trying to save space by mounting the pump vertically just above the sump bulkhead.

I think I have seen it mounted that way for a skimmer but I can't remember exactly.I also don't know if there is more of a chance to get air bubbles mounting it like that.

Sequence pumps can be mounted vertically with no problem. I asked Sequence this question directly. However, last year I set up a guys 540 gallon tank with a hammerhead as the closed loop pump, installed vertically. Last week the pump failed. This was due to a leak on the seal allowing water to run down the shaft onto the bearings and into the motor housing. Sequence did send a new pump right away with instructions on returning the damaged pump. So you can mount them in this fashion but you run a greater risk of problems should they leak...... I was planning to mount mine vertically until this happened. Now I will mount it horizontally just to be safe....

Thanks for the info! I'll try to get a pic as soon as my computer stops acting the fool

Mount it vertically with the motor facing up. That should prevent air lock if it is shut off if the pump end is still below the water line.

This is what it will look like!

I have never used an external pump and am not sure if (in case of power outage)it will reprime when located above water level in sump. This is a return for a 180 and will feed chiller in crawlspace,as well as some other stuff. Has anyone done this before. If it where a closed loop I would'nt worry because it should'nt get air in the system.

Bump for more opinions! I comfortable mounting vertical I'm just curious if it will loose prime if it looses power.I may be able to get it a little lower and with the sump full(power outage)the water level should be equal with the pump(more or less).
