Dbtc?

Many years ago myself and a few other MARS members started a Don't Break the Chain (DBTC) inspired by our friends over at BAR. There was a database of who contributed what and where each of the subsequent frags went. Part of the idea was that those that contributed would have access to frags in the future if they ever needed to replace corals.

The link to the old MARS database seems to be dead. Is there any chance that those who still have tanks up from those days gone by might have any of the old records?

Old records not sure where they would be anymore, the site has been revamped 2 times now since I remember a dbtc info. We could sticky a new thread on Rc and post stuff in there so I isnt lost.

Havent seen anyone do a dbtc in a few years on here though.

That's too bad, we had hundreds of corals in the system by 2010 after launching in 2009. It was a great program and helped people keep backups in case of disaster or life changes. I see BAR has kept their system going all these years!

A lot of people have come and gone since then. Probably the only ones still around from that time are Tim P, Mark P, and John from Yourreef

Yes it is, like Jeff said, very few still around that remember the DBTC let alone participated in it. We can see about adding a page to the new MARS site. The club was flat broke at one point, and rebounding from that guess we lost focus on the DBTC.

I agree it is a great practice and would love to see it more often. The hobby has changed a great deal since then. I remember standing room only at RoundTable, but now days people just want to read it online it seems.

Yup, hobby has changed a lot the last few years. It's all about chopping off stuff into little pieces and seeing who will pay the highest prices.

When I was active in the club from 2007-2010 it took a lot of work to bring people into the meeetings. Mike B and Paul B did a LOT of work every month to wrangle product and livestock for our raffle. I hate to say it, but even with some of the amazing speakers we brought in, it was the top notch raffles that packed the seats. Those raffles also helped us fill club coffers so that we could bring in speakers. Anyway, it was a LOT of work back then. Frankly, between that work and some other things it burned me out.

Anyway, thanks for the info. BAR simply uses their forum for DBTC. Each person starts a chain for items they want to offer up.

I'm sorry to hear about some of the changes in the hobby. Let me know if I can do anything to help.
