I am so glad.

So what I am going to do is show you the purchase items I want to get for the tank. Retrofix for the hood to follow.

Let me know what you think so far. :) I am testing the tank out with fresh water before I dig in. Hope you can understand that. Not for the previous poster but for anyone that posts. I will be doing a retrofit for lighting and so forth. I just want to dig into this tank and see what it can do and how it handles upgrades.

I found an old post of mine elsewhere from an aquapod makeover. Some really good photos too!

Man that seems a lifetime ago. But what a great tank that was! I Frankenstein that thing really good!

Looks like a good start. What are the droppers for?

My objective is to get all I need and then decide to change over to salt water. I have to first figure out that the tank and lighting needed along with flow, etc, is in my best interest. I just need to do and then make do. I hope that makes sense. Lots of stuff delivered today but more tomorrow and on Thursday. So, once all is got, well go from there. Lots to do, hope you follow

Just a little something.

It has been a long road to perfection. Crazy. We have seen so many changes over the years. Fluorescent, Metal Halide, VHO, T5, LED. Wow, been a long time. Crazy how far we have come. I was drawn back here because it is my birthday. I have posted thousands of posts; however, things have been lost over the last couple centuries. I hope I can still contribute. I have some ideas. Not sure who is left but shout out if you are. :)

The lighting has been the single greatest upgrade for me in the past 20 years. Back in the day when I was living in an apartment with a bunch of smaller tanks breeding dwarf seahorses, high end corals and the required lighting was so overwhelming for me. Now days, a couple LED's under bluetooth control is a dream come true.

oh I completely understand. Definitely! Lots has changed. I understand completely. However, what I am doing now is making sure my brain still functions and understands the importance of lighting that is not on the tank but above it. A lighting fixture you can move away when you need to make fine adjustments. Thanks for responding.

this is my current setup. I had 3 x 90w redsea LEDs that I had acquired last year with a used tank. one of them was finicky, so I threw my 2 x 50w redsea LED's in the middle to make it a little more aesthetically pleasing. with the arm mounts, they never get in the way. so far I'm pretty happy with it...

from that angle I can't see much too much glare. That is a lot of tank. I certainly wish you the best. I just wish I could see more. I have to go atm. I will remain logged in. Can you tell me more about your tank and what is under the cupboard? I seriously hope you the best. I am MORE about the build now than I am the tank. Growing corals is easy when all parameters are met.

I personally do not like deep tanks for corals. I would prefer a cube maybe MAX height of 20 inches. Over the top of that does not matter length or width. This fixture

I am sure that you are going to make that work. It is going to be awesome.

I haven't bought freshwater fish online ever. And I haven't had freshwater in decades. But, I found this vendor who seems to have what you're looking for on their site but, currently out of stock. Looks like they're located in California.

Yeah I know, when I first set it up in that spot in Nov we had zero glare cause it's dark like 22 hours of the day (Ha) now that I have the new tank setup in the same place but PNW days are quite long I'm having a hard time getting good pictures. it's not next to the window, but across the room from the windows that get direct sun so you see the other windows in the reflection a lot, lol.

those are pretty cool!

There is a small micron of an OKAY ok having true light be on the tank. Over my years. I would not suggest it long term unless you get the timing correct. All you are going to achieve is getting more algae than you can deal with and ultimately you either find the balance or your tank is done. Just a thought. You might get it right. I hope you do. Actual sunlight on a reef tank. Almost, never a good thing.
