Dc vs AC pumps

What is the PRACTICAL difference between DC pumps and AC pumps? Which one to choose for a 120G 6ft tank with a sump within the aquarium stand, i.e the head height is less than 5 feet.

DC=gph can be turned down, or up, to match the overflow rate for your aquarium.

I have an EcoTech Marine Vectra M1 that I really like; it has been running for 3 years thus far. I assume the bigger and updated versions are of like quality.

Thanks for the reply.
I am thinking between Neptune Apex COR 20 (472 CAD) and Ecotech Marine Vectra M2 Version 2 (499 CAD). Both are max 2000 gph.

My ultimate goal is to have the Apex controller. So I am leaning towards COR 20 for seamless compatibility. Any thoughts?

Have you looked at the varios line? I went with a varios 8 for my current 150 build. It can be controlled by the apex with an additional cable. With the 8 I am running it as a return and powering two reactors and a sterilizer off of the manifold.

Generally speaking AC pumps will pump better with high head pressure. Back pressure tends to slow DC pumps down.
