I definitely don't think it's a Ctenochaetus. More like an Abberant Acanthurus nigroris or Acanthurus nubilus

I agree Acanthurus, but it's no chevron adult I've seeen. The orange spots on the head discount it for me. But I agree about the lines on the body looking like a chevron. I really don't know. Neat fish!

WOW!!!! That thing is STUNNING (especially in the second picture). As with all aberrants though, I wonder if it'll revert to a "normal" coloration.

also one of those fish that when your buddies come over that aren't fish people they'll say, "What's up with that one? I think it's sick or has some kind of growth on it!"

:)

....Little do they know......

Interesting it's still available. I definitely find it way more appealing then 99% of the Koi-yellow tangs out there, and it's $399 price seems great

I must be looking a different picture than everybody else because that thing above looks ugly to me.

part of the reason it looks amazing/beautiful is the fact it is ugly. you dont see them a lot so you say "hey i want that, i might never get to see/own one again!"

I love it. If it was half the size; I would buy it in a second. I kind of wish it was left in the ocean however. To hopefully pass on its unique genes.

There is no evidence or inclination to suggest that this is genetically reproduceable. it may just as likely be environmental or pathogenic.
