Well, had a set back yesterday. The nem decided to unfoot himself and hasn't stayed put since. Mouth was a little gapped and expelled some waste but then tightend up. Cant tell if its just poop or xoozanthae. Some tenticles deflate to next to nothing, but only on a small part of the body. Otherwise, he does stay pretty well inflated and is quite sticky still. The foot did have a bit of a spec on it that I'm a little concerned with but I couldn't get a good picture as my lights are out when I wake up.
I have it sheilded from major flow as it was blowing around so it hopefully foots again today. I'll post some updated pics for thoughts soon. Forgot my camera.

I think so, considering they are found in mud or near mud substrates. I have always read this as the recommendation as well. Others seem to not think its a concern.

Well, here are some pics as promised. 1st two are different angels from yesterday when it was deflating, only part of its body was doing this. But not very good looking, mouth was gapped.
Then this AM it was blown around a bit so I dug a hole and sheilded it from the current to see what would happen. When I was home at lunch it seemed to re-attach and inflated. Those are the next remaining pics. Looks better but was excreting something and mouth still not 100% tight. Hopefully stays put, this is a little more encourgaing. I'll update tonight when home.
The last pic is its mouth spewing something, anyone ID? There are two different types of excretions, one very dark, almost black and stringy. I've seen smaller chuncks that are more ball shaped and brownish. Just regular poop? It really hasn't eaten much. Most Mysis is getting grabbed by fish. I'm going to come up with some cage to feed it as it never gets anything down before it either lets it go or a fish grabs it.
Maybe it got mad the last couple days I tried to feed it and between trying to scare fish away with flashlights and waving things infront of it, it got angry. I'll wait another day before trying to feed again. Calm is better I know for LTAs. Do the tips looks starved in anyones minds?

Well, back home and its doing the shrink on one side routine again like the first two pics above. Spitting more crap out. Argh. Its staying put so far. Not sure what to do.

Just wanted to give another update. Last two days its really gone down hill. I'm not sure I can blame it on anything foot related. There are some filaments coming out the bottom but its foot isn't deteriorating like the last one. Its shrunk it tenticles down to nothing and its like its almost eating itself inside out.
Maybe the LEDs? I did sheild it with two layers of window screen, but who knows. Got to be something in my tank they aren't liking. I'll get some pictures today.
Gonna hold off on any more anenomes till I can figure this out.

Sorry to hear about your issues.
"Filaments coming out of the bottom" are not a good thing. Those are likely acontia filaments, which are nematocyst-laden filaments that an anemone uses as defense against injury or attack. Any chance you could have worms in your substrate? Do the tentacles appear to be "nipped off" or are they just shorter while appearing perfectly healthy.
In one photo I see a clear plastic cup. You could try placing the anemone in a clear cup with a little sugar-grain sand to see if it responds better to a finer substrate. Additionally, you would be able to more easily observe if the anemone was being pestered by anything (particularly at night).
The waste being exuded in one of the photos is zooxanthellae (the dark brown stuff). A little zooxanthellae being released is not horrible - all anemones have to juggle their zooxanthellae a little when being introduced to new lighting. If it expels ALL its zooxanthellae, it is not good - but is still not a 100% fatal act. It doesn't look bleached, and you have it shaded, so I don't believe the lighting is the primary issue here.

Yeah, finer sand is certainly something to try. I'll see if I can track some down somewhere today. Is stuff at Home Depot or Menards safe to use?

Went home for lunch and it looked like the next photo, back to inflated but still not a tight mouth like I'd like to see, but certainly better than yesterday. Sorry for quality it was with my phone and it inflated pretty large against the plastic current shield. This thing is certainly moody.

I will try getting some finer sand around it. I'm also mixing 30 gallons for a water change tomorrow to see if that perks it up any. Besides that I'm trying my best not to disturb it or make any drastic changes.
