Hi Guys,

I would like to try this skimmer.

I will set up a 250G system SPS only

What do you guys think about this skimmer ?

Denadi, dont waste your time.

The Octopus skimmers are nice, but the dual pump models are a waste. Its a 6" body, and with the meshwheel mod, a single one of those pumps will pull more air than the body can handle. (for that matter, a single one will pull more than an 8" body can handle)

That being said, the octopus skimmers are a great value, but the recircs are significanly more expensive than the non recircs. The above skimmer will cost you $450. A single pump non recirc version will cost you $149. A non recirc NW200 will cost you $189, and completely outskim the pictured skimmer. (A single pump DNW-200 costs about the same as the above pictured, and is a better skimmer)

Hi RichConley,

Do you think the non recirc has the same performance than recirc ?

Maybe the DNW 200 is a good idea.

I just want the best performance...doesn´t matter if the skimmer is non recirc ou recirc

Thank´s

Regards

The recirc performs better than the nonrecirc.

BUT, I'd take the Non recirc 200 over the recirc 150. Recircs can't make up for having a smaller skimmer.

The DNW200 is the best performer we've mentioned so far. Is it twice the performer that the NW200 is($189)? No, but it will outperform the NW200.

I'd highly reccomend the meshmod. Its a ten minute mod that will cost you $3, and after its done, a DNW200 will shut down a deltec AP851 or anything smaller.

Well,

I think I will take the DNW200....

Do you think the DNW200 is better than deltec 701 or 702 ?

Remember that my reef will have 250G SPS only....not overload

Denadai, stock, it wont pull nearly as much air, and wont perform nearly as well as those Deltecs. If you do the mesh mod though, it will outperform them.

When I get some time, I will be doing this mod as well...

So I can have the mesh mod just adding mesh in my impeller pump ? Easy like that ?

Sounds too easy to increase air intake and performance :-)

Makes you wonder, doesnt it?

I doubt that a meshwheel moded DNW200 will "shut down" a Deltec AP851.

Rich, show some pics to prove your statement. :)

Make sure that if you add to much mesh, you may end up overflowing your skimmer from having too much air pulled in.

Why wouldnt it? Its the same size skimmer, pulls significanly more air. Skimmers aren't that complicated guys.

Stock, a DNW-200 won't handle a 250 gal SPS system. You really have to do mods to get the air draw up on it (I know, I have two of them). Unless you want to do mods, the DDNW-150 is probably better.

If you are interested in doing a mod, then the DNW-200 would probably be OK. I wouldn't use an NW-200 on anything bigger than a 180, but that's just me.

It wouldn't because if too much air is pulled into a skimmer body that is not large enough, it will overflow. Have you tried this before? If not, then you really can't prove that it will "shut down" the AP851.
