De-humidistat/exhaust fans- who is using them?

by passive, I mean hole in the wall to outside
(with screens to prevent bugs from coming into the house)
and on the air pipe coming out of the house, I installed generic dryer vent cap that has flaps that closes when not is use.
been running great for me since 2009

I also installed a weatherproof door on the fish room to help seal it up from the house side, so air is pulled from outside of the house versus coming from my basement.

This is not viable for me. Room cannot easily be sealed off.

But I live near Chicago.... Much too hot/humid in summer, much too cold in winter.

It would really depend on how much you want to spend, wouldn't it? You could go with a separate HVAC system for your tank and fish room. Also, an air-to-air heat exchanger could be used to pre-condition incoming replacement air.
