i have had a 5" blue crocea for a year now. the water params are fine. in a 55 with 265w pc. hes been on the sand. has been doing great for a year, he looked fine yesterday as normal, today he is dead.his insides where stringing from the bottom. i picked him up to look and no movement from him. didnt see any kind of worm or snail in him. what could have happened?

I would say lack of light. On the sandbed he likely slowly starved to death (they don't show signs of dying until they are gone) Most seem to last 6-8 months until they kick the bucket...sounds like yours hung on a little longer.

Hate to say it, but save the croceas till you get MH lights.

i have to agree probly was light. you need metal halides for croceas. that is unless it is high up in the tank. my two cents

Hey just a question on the side:
Did you observe any growth in the shell while you had the clam? I'm trying to figure out whether a clam can be starving and still grow...

I would almost buy off on that but I had one do the same thing two days ago and I got 3 x 400 watt halides & 4 X 160 watts VHO on a 135 gallon tank. The other 6 are still doing great. What gives?

Sorry about your clam dude, that does blow, in a pretty major kinda way.

no i didn't notice any growth on the crosea. but i also have a dersa and squamosa and they are growing. the squamosa is almost doubled in size.
