I have had a small (2.5") yellow cucumber in my tank for about 3 months now. Last night I found that it had been sucked up in my powerhead. (Not too powerful in that my clown goby can still rest on the glass in the flow.) It even had the cover on it with the really small slits all around it.
I hate to say that I am not quite sure when he got in there, but I really doubt that I would have missed it in my evening check, so it would have to had been since Sunday evening. I was only able to check the ammonia this morning due to time and it was at 0. I had to cut it out for the most part because it was quite dead because I can't imagine it still being alive after sliding through those 1/16" holes... If not, I killed it when fighting to remove it.
Now, this morning my clowns were covered with little white dots, which could very well be from small bubbles that had covered everything due to the sump acting up. But one clown was rubbing up against the liverock periodically as if scratching. The white dots disappeared after the xenia started elongating and they swam among it. Also, the clowns have little black dots on their bodies which weren't there Sunday night. Almost as if someone had picked them up and dotted them with a pen.
Basically my question is, what are the signs of poison due to the cuke? And if it is not due to the cuke, what else could the dots be? I have a small fish store right down the road from where I work that I could get meds from too. I'm buying water tonight after work to do a 50% water change (or more if you think I should). The soft corals and polyps are all open and nothing, save the clowns, are acting or looking any different.
