Dead spots

Hi am suffering with dead spots at the moment, doesn't matter where I position both my powerheads I still don’t manage to clear this dead spot. I have included a picture for reference. the powerheads are actually situated at the top of the tank to provide surface movement. They are set at an angle and point towards center of the front glass. Is the rock correctly laid out, any ideas, I an using two 900 Hydor wave makers.

This may me be adding to the problem of my Nitrates. I tested last night and they are around 50ppm. It seems not matter how many water changes I do I can't keep on top of them. I test my RO water prior to mixing my salt. I test my salt water prior to adding to take and all is good. I think I may add Seachem De Nitrate to my filter, what do you all think?

This is a FLUVAL EDGE 46L set up.

Hey! I am new to reefing but I have had a fluval edge 46L setup for just over a month and I am suffering an identical problem with nitrates. Despite them all my measures being just right once my cycle finished, since I stocked the tank with a few corals and a shrimp they've rocketed and no amount of water changes seems to be helping.

I would keep the PHs where you have them but I'd point them at each other, this will give you two flows hitting each other head on and creating a hectic flow which is most desirable.

I used NoPox to get rid of my nitrates and phosphates and it worked wonderfully. What it does is feed your nitrate eating bacteria which is the last part of the nitrogen cycle and helps them to grow in numbers. I had nitrates of 80+ and phosphates of .04 after treating the recommended dose 10 days in a row both are not detectable and this is over two weeks after dosing the NoPox. I bought this on Ebay for around $13 shipping included.

I like your aquascape!
I just redid mine and the fish really like swimming through arches like yours. They seem happier than when it was just a lump of rock to swim circles around. But I think it will be tricky to keep stuff from settling there. These $8 powerheads don't move very much water at all, I like them to just keep stuff moving behind the rocks without really adding flow to the tank http://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00...+powerhead&dpPl=1&dpID=414jhCR-xcL&ref=plSrch it's good to have movement at the bottom, to keep oxygen in all the water.
