Dead Xenia...?

A local club member was cool enough to trim some xenia out to a few rocks I brought over a couple days ago. Now they look like this & idk if I should keep them or pitch them....

That looks pretty bad, but sometimes its surprising what Xenia can do. I've had it melt away in my tank before for months, then magically re-appears in the same spot. Mine seems to do it more less on the lighting changes and bulb swaps, doesn't really look like the pic you posted.

Yeah, the water parms may not be helping out that much if it's as bad as it appears in the pic...

When my Xenia are resting, they take on a more deflated appearance, but yours seems more deflated than usual. Keep an eye on water parameters and remove/QT if they appear unchanged or worse.

Water parameters are great. That pic is down in the fuge after I moved it from the DT. The cheato just shook some detritus loose. My nitrates are 0

I'm gonna temp fate a little here, I like this stuff. Do you think if I move it back to the DT right under my 4 T5's it'll come back to life?

I like it too, but mine doubles every 4 weeks. I got rid of most of it and have some growing on a rock I can easily remove and trim. The pulsing is cool, but nothing is as invasive. Like misled said, if you can see it, it isn't dead.

Agreed. I've got a ton of anthelia that I wish I could get rid of too. Xenia is a weird coral though, for some it really takes off (and takes over) but for others it just refuses to grow.

I was hoping to keep it confined to the fuge for a while. I'll try to put it under the bright lights & think about it awhile. I don't want It taking over, but it's too cool too.. we'll see. Thanks everyone for their input. I'll post back up how it does, In case anyone wants to know.

Well, I thought this was a bit strange... so I put them under my DT lights & started to see some movement. Check on them this evening & they have become red hermit crab food. My two scarlet hermits were mowing down on what was left of them... anyone seen this before?

Xenia's like a little nitrates in the water.

My nitrates have tested 0 for a long time, yet xenia loves my tank. Measured nitrates may not always be an indicator of available nitrates I suppose.
