Dear SCMAS

I have only been reading and posting here since about January. It's been nice having local feedback. Unfortunately I have never managed to get the opportunity to attend a meeting. I haven't had the chance to meet any of you and to be honest after reading the posts lately I am not so sure I want to keep trying for a day off to make it to a meeting. It is very disturbing to me to see such a public fight occurring on a VERY public forum. I am sure there have been many other eyes reading your arguments and may have easily come to the same conclusion I have. You have certainly not left a positive impression for me.

I personally think this kind of problem should have been left off the forum and lunch or dinner in another public place to deal with your disagreements would have been more appropriate . I am sorry to see such turmoil happening between you and I hope that someday you guys can sit down together, agree to disagree and keep the club strong. After all it's about a hobby that we are ALL supposed to enjoy and share that enjoyment with others without having an anxiety attack at every meeting because of less than adult behavior.

Hopefully something positive will come from this because someday I really would like to come to a meeting, get to know everyone and have a good time. Right now is just not that time.

Christine, yah there a bit of a situation that needs to be corrected in the club. But believe me when I say that you will never see this in an actual meeting. Just give it a chance and I promise that you will not see any more of this nonsense once a new board has been elected. Even in the past when situations arose, it never affected any club meetings. It has always been fun and informative IMHO. SCMAS is still fairly young and growing pains has definitely hit the club hard. All it needs is time.

I have seen the same things occur on other club forums this really isn't anything new to this type of dynamic, especially when these major changes are occuring.

I'm sure the perception is unfavorable; however, the forum is not indicative of the overall situation pertaining to SCMAS. It is a small part...the meetings are very personable, and everyone gets along fine. When things are discussed on a message forum or via PM or email, it causes major communication breakdowns which leads to these types of problems. This is a blip on the radar in the grand scheme of SCMAS or any other club going through these types of changes.

Yeah I second that, it seems like stuff gets blown way out of proportion here, the meets are different, come to one sometime and see for yourself. It's hard to know how we all are based solely upon a message board, I think that's why it's a good idea the club require's you to attend at least 2 meetings a year to actually be considered a member. Otherwise it's not much different that posting in any other forum on reef central.

If we acted the way we do on here at our meeting nobody would come out alive, it seems like it would be WWIII.

"Article IV. Membership
IV.1. Membership in the Southern Colorado Marine Aquarist Society shall be open to any person who attends 2 meetings within a 12 month calendar year."
