Hello,
I had a female Fiji Blue Devil in my 58g reef and up until yesterday, she was the only fish in the tank. FYI I've never liked this fish (too aggressive) but I kept it for my wife. She even named her Satana. Well, yesterday we bought a Coral Beauty Angel and Bicolor Pseudochromis to go in with her. I figured these two would be "tough enough" to make it with her. (The place I bought from had already quarantined them for two months so I figured minimal risk putting them right in.)
So what I expected to happen happened. The Pseudochromis found a rock to hide in, while the Coral Beauty stayed behind the rocks all day. The Blue Devil mostly stayed out in front, but from time to time would go behind the rocks and was probably having skirmishes with the Angel. I didn't think anything of it until I noticed the Blue Devil back out in front breathing heavily. Her mouth was breathing rapidly and her gills were flaring. This is when I became really concerned and started running tests. About a half hour later I saw the Blue Devil turn the corner really fast and try to go into the sand, but instead I think she hit her head on a rock.
Common sense tells me this was probably a case of a freak accident akin to when two guys get into a fight, one hits the other and the guy is killed when his head hits the curb. But... Has anyone ever heard of a disease (internal parasites?) where an established fish dies 24 hours after being introduced to two new fish who are still alive and well? All my water parameters tested normal. TIA...
