Debating FW vs reef

Ha! Yeah, that's the "get it up and running" budget. I am sure it will take more in the long run. I'm sure I'll make a thread, though. I love rehashing details at length and hubby only wants to hear so much about sea life. I have a 2yo who adores fish (he loses his mind with half the avatars here) but of course his interest in water testing and equipment specs is pretty limited. FOR NOW.

I wish there were 75s in the Petco sale but alas, no.

i would check craigslist and see if you can find a complete setup used. Just be sure it does not leak and check the cords on all the equipment and so on..
Just remember to reuse any Sand and Rock you may have some steps and a lot of cleaning... If the tank is setup and nutrient levels are not bad you can reuse them right away. if the tank is in bad shape over grown you will have to do some lights out in containers for the live rock and likely Dump the sand. So do not consider those things in the price you pay..

Good Luck and welcome to Community as well..... I paid 200.00 for our custom built 7 foot tank from craigslist.

I second this. I did not buy from CL because there was nothing I wanted available. RIGHT after I placed the order for my tank, there were three. Be patient - and welcome! :D

Nice! I've been watching our CL for about six weeks and so far everything has been what seems "overpriced" to me for used equipment. I set up a search alert, though, so I get emails every time something comes up with the keywords I'm looking for. And if I get a tank during the sale and THEN see something on CL, well, uh... I can always set up that freshwater tank?

True... or Return it... Sometimes on Craigslist people have no idea what there stuff is really worth used. They seem to price it just a few bucks below what they paid Sometimes a email or text to them to explain a used tank should be about .50 cents a gallon and equip usually worth 1/4 to half price if current and in great working order..

For instance we seen a add for a 72 gal acrylic bay front tank. with acrylic stand and all filters for 800.00 they sell for 1500 new.. I told him over phone most i would pay is 500.00 if perfect shape.. I went to look at it and found a few scratches and a piece of cracked plastic. the filter was old. When i was done i paid 100.00 for it.... its A Gorgeous Freshwater planted tank now...
