Decent rock for a nano?

Building a nano and looking for decent rock. Haven't seen anything that will work near me. Has anyone seen some nice-ish stuff in their travels?

I was thinking of ordering online, but I'd rather see what I'm buying instead of hoping for the best.

Thanks!

Hi Josh-

Tank's a JBJ24. I took a ride along Jericho Tpke from Huntington to Commack, stopped everywhere along the way the last 2 days. Any place that had rock only had huge chunks or totally bare rubble.

I was thinking of just buying some dry rock from BRS and seeding it myself. I have a few small pieces in my 55 that I could swap. Do you have thoughts on that?

Try tropical island in deer park. They usually have a good assortment of sizes.

Thanks, Charlie. May stop there tomorrow. Would have stopped this week, but I didn't remember seeing any when I was there last time. Of course, I wasn't looking ;)

If anyone wants to chime in with advice or suggestions on using dry rock, I'm all ears.

I started my current tank with all dry rocks and just seeded it with a couple choice pieces. I let it sit with nothing for about 2 1/2 months and then started to add things. I ghost fed the tank a little in that time period and I had no problems whatsoever.

It is nice in the aquascaping faze as you aren't worried about rock drying out as you work and if one piece doesn't work you don't feel bad about chucking it.

Thanks to all for suggestions. Went to Tropical Island on Saturday and scored some really nice Fiji that's very close to fully cooked. Tank's empty (no water yet) so it's all the same to me. Will definitely have it set up by next week.

Thanks, Joshua, for reassurance on seeding dry rock. I bought what I thought would fit in the cube, even though it's much less by weight than I *should* have. Will seed dry rock on the fill-in so I'll have real Fiji with green/red/orange and "fake" Tonga with a nice purple and really cool shapes ;)

Will start a thread when I get started -- should be a fun project!

Don't worry about the weight per gallon nonsense. People are proving over and over again that you don't need "1.5lbs per gallon"

hahaha!! I've been proving for a very long time there's a lot of things you don't need. I think a lot of us here have done the same ;)

Will definitely have to put it together to know for sure, but the rock fills a 5 gallon bucket about 2/3. I think that's close to enough.
