Deciding to let an infestation run it's course; anyone been down that road?

About 50 sps frags/colonies lost due to pests, about 75 left.

Slowly starting to die off, too much encrustment too large of colonies to take out and dip. Don't feel like begging the vet for interceptor or paying hundreds of dollars for flat worm stop (most zeovit crap is sugar water IMO).

I am honestly thinking of letting my $30,000 investment of a system sit and rot for a bit just making sure to keep fish alive while I wait for the pests to run their course. I already tossed 6 beloved prized SPS out of frustration because I know they wont last the dip process.

This AEFW/Red Bug infestation has sucked the life out of me and totally drained my desire to look at reef tanks again. I may let it sit in FOWLR mode for a good 2-3 years before I try again for corals. I might sell off my expensive LEDs and just throw some china junk on there for now.

For those people that say "dip your corals" shame on you. This is the WORST advice you can ever ever ever give anyone. I made the mistake of doing this as my fail safe. I used coralrx and medicoral only to find out that ALL REEF TANK DIPS ARE COMPLETE GARBAGE. I did not know that the only real way to rid AEFW and redbugs was to use some home depot insecticide. You would think these idiot companies would follow suit and make an actual product that removes the most horrible pest ever to grace the reef world...is that asking too much?

DIPPING WILL NOT SAVE YOU.

Invest in a nice QT tank for SPS good lighting/flow the whole nine yards; if you don't you're on borrowed time. It will hit you and it will destroy you.

If dips don't kill eggs, dips are USELESS.

HORRIBLE ADVICE! JUST STOP IT.

I am so frustrated right now, I wish I never spent the money...wish I never got into this hobby. What I would do for a time machine right now! :(

Man, can't imagine being in your situation, but don't give in. With all that it sounds like you have, absolutely don't give up. I mean, Bayer is technically a dip, even Bayer from what I've read doesn't kill eggs. I know you said a lot is encrusted, but personally I'd get to fragging them off as much as possible and start that QT with Bayer dips. If stuff is encrusted, get what you can then let the infestation run its course. I'm sure you can save much of what you have with some work, don't give up!

sorry you are feeling so discouraged! i had a terrible flatworm infestation in my 75g reef. they multiplied like freaking rabbits. i added a yellow coris wrasse and while i did see him eating them, he didn't make a dent in the population so i added a vrolik's wrasse. within a week i could see a definite decline in the flat worm population and within 2 weeks, i didn't see a single one. bonus is that the vrolik's wrasse is stunning!

It's a closed system so ultimately qt is the only way and yes you must be meticulous with bringing in frags in batches then allowing ample time to ensure everything is clean then into the display tank. It's a hassle but the only way to be sure sure

Hugs on your loss, a similar situation lead to my departure from the hobby as well
