Declivis and Tinkeri Hybrid in HD Video

Here's a video of my Chaetodon declivis and a Roaops Hybrid (C. tinkeri x C. burgessi x ...?) picking at coral slime and polyps of their favorite Acropora--an intermittent snack between their feedings. It does not harm the coral, only polyp extension is diminished.

The hope was to pair these two, but they appear to be the same sex and frequently show spurts of aggression. The Roaops Hybrid has the very interesting ability to change color when in "aggressive mode" turning near solid gray and the eye changes from amber to a sky blue that rivals blue topaz. This is similar to what the Japanese call "warning body color" on male Genicanthus personatus. Unfortunately, I have yet to capture this on film!

Gorgeous fish, but was anyone else expecting a tink x declivis hybrid, based on the thread title? :D

beautiful fish....i read the article on glassbox as well. it seems that they're appropriate to keep with acros and damage would be minimal, however i wonder how they would do with my Bird of Paradise. I have a feeling that with the amount of polyp that is exposed it would be decimated in short order. Any experience or comments?

I'd love to try a declivis, maybe it'd be worth the risk.....

To me the hybrid butteflyfish, looks like a flavocoronatus x burgessi hybrid.
I wouldn't disagree ;) There likely is some input from C. flavocoronatus as well as C.tinkeri. These hybrids are part of a unique Roaops area where C. tinkeri, C. burgessi, C. declivis, and C. flavocoronatus all intermix with one another. These mixed blood hybrids fall everywhere in between, with each being unique. Hopefully it will be explored with DNA testing.

Here's a photo that better shows the markings. The yellow in the eye stripe and tail tend to change based on what I can best describe as "mood".

I just re-read the title  my apologies if it was misleading! One particular hybrid went to Japan (for a very good chunk of change) and strongly suggested tinkeri x declivis input.

it will be interesting, i think as a result of the glassbox thread people will be more apt to try a butterfly in their reef.

if you look, i think it's apparent in the number of "can i put a butterfly in my reef" threads that have been started on here in the last few days.

I'm interested to see how people do! I'm considering a tinkers/declivis/banks for my tank! just have to find the right one.
