Deepwater Reef Tanks

For a while now I have been researching deepwater reef environment. I am seriously looking into setting up a deepwater reef tank. I simply love the idea of a dimly lit reef tank. I think that many of the most amazing fish and invertebrates are found at greater depths. I have seen several tanks that are setup to house deepwater fish, corals, and inverts. I was just wondering if there are any deepwater reeftanks found on RC. I would love to see a few pics and get any information possible.

Thanks

Thanks. I have looked at the cold water tanks, they are very nice. But I am looking into tropical deepwater. I am not sure that there are very many of these tanks around.

It might be hard to do true deep water ..With collection and getting them used to the diff. in pressure..I dont know just a idea?

Many of the species that are available are actually from deep water habitats. I just think that it would be very interesting to put these species into a tank that mimics their true environment.
For example: Ventralis Anthias (many anthias species are found at great depths), Many Butterfly species, basslets, there are many species that are readily available that will fit into a deepwater reef nicely.

aahh I thought you were talking like deep deep deep were sea monsters live

I want a sea monster for my tank! (been checking Divers Den on a daily basis, but apparently they are hard to come by)

On a more serious note, I would love to see a deep-water reef, as I know many species of fish and corals inhabit these zones. I would think a tank purly lit by actinics would be possible with the proper research. Tagging along.

I have actually been looking at using current-usa bowerbright LED. I have one of the full 10K Bower Brights that I use to light a cabinet. I think that the blue version of the power brights might be a good choice for this. If I used several of these lights, I will get the shimmer of MHs without the intensity.
I will give a hint at the size of the tank I am considering. 170 gallon cube. (36 X 36 X 30) Just an Idea.

I would love a tank that would be 72 X 36 X 60, But that is just a fantasy tank. I don't think I'd ever make it a reality, I have enough keeping up with my 60 X 36 X 25. I would most likely Run a combination of MH's & T5's over it hoping to light the bottom of it. But the rest of the equipment would be daunting. Like I said, if I ever win the lottery then yes, but for now I'll just keep dreaming.

:)

That would be a sweet tank, but I think that the 170 gallon cube Idea for a deep water reef would be very nice. Any input on the Lighting?
