Defining the parts

Looking for some feedback...

While a picture is worth a thousand words, sometimes it's helpful to be able to informally describe the appearance of a zoa/play using just words.

The following zoa is divided into five regions:

I typically refer to the regions as:

1. Mouth
2. Center circle
3. Face
4. Tentacle interface
5. Tentacles or skirt

A couple questions:

1) What would YOU call each of those regions?

2) Without the diagram, would you know what I was referring to if you heard those terms?

^ I like the 5 regions you are describing. I think I will use your model from now on when describing zoas/palys. Typically I have always used the eye, center, ring and skirt method. The tentical interface can be really helpfull in describing alot of zoas these days.

From another site:

A: Tentacles (tentacular crown is the ring of tentacles )
I'm sure that most of us call the tentacles of a zoanthid as the skirt.

B:Oral Disc
I'm not sure what this area is called but most people call it the center.

C: Inner Oral Disc or Around the Mouth
This is a there or not type of area. Some zoas have a change in their areas before they reach the mouth, or opening. This area doesn't always exist so it is a zoa to zoa basis.

D: Mouth
I'm pretty sure that most people call this part the mouth.

There is also one additional area not mentioned on there which is the outside of the polyp or the "Skin". An important part of identification for the PE types.
