I have had this hammer for quite some time and it was always fine. Recently it has deflated and its tentacles(?) are very short too. What is wrong with it? Why do they do this and how do I fix it??
Since you've had it a while I'll assume no chages in the lighting or flow.
Do you have other LPS ? If so check to see if a neighbor is putting out stinger tentacles . As your corals have grown what was once a safe distance may now be too close. Check after lights out too.
Do you have soft corals? Might be toxins from some of the soft corals. A water change and activated carbon will usually resolve that issue but it may take a while.
Do you have fish irritating the coral ? Some fish that have been model citizens will suddenly start nipping at corals.
Finally, I've had euphyllia go into an unexplained decline. With a healthy environment they usually recover.
Thanks for the information. The only corals that are close to the hammer are my xenia and galaxea. Don't know if either of these have stinger tentacles or put out toxins. My galaxea isnt looking too good either, so Im guessing it's not harming anyone.
