Deltec

I had my first experience with a deltec skimmer this weekend. I purchased a APF600 installed it on my 150 SPS reef on Friday. By Saturday afternoon I already collected more skimate then I would collect with my EV 180 in a week, and to think no more micorbubbles. I guess the old saying is true in this case"you get what you pay for" I am completely 100% satified. Amazing..

I have the equivalent skimmer in the H&S line, saved almost $200. And this is what I got during the first week of skimming after the first 4 days, emptied the collection cup and this is the 2nd 4 days.

It wasn't money that stirred me away as I was going to buy a H&S A200, but inconsistent customer service was a concern and owners seeming to have problems with the Deltec Aquabee pump, but no one having that problem with the H&S Aquabee pump:

Just a simple point. There are great skimmers that perform exactly like the Deltec that maybe be a little less expensive, so money is not necessary what determines quality and performance.

Welcome to the club man. I had the same issues like you with some crappy skimmers. I have the younger brother the AP600. Just make sure you keep your pump clean. Salt and dust can get in the nipple on he venturi. I pour water down the tube every 5 days to keep it performing.

The crude it pulls in 2 days from 55 gallon

I know you like your H&S skimmer but you have the exactly the same pump on your skimmer as a Deltec . Many reefers don't maintain there skimmer pumps correctly that is always a big problem .

Hey Zoom, yes, I understand that I have the same pump, but I have found one single complaint about the H&S Aquabee pump. When I did a search on "Deltec Aquabee", there was lots of complaints and I think something to do with how the pumps were modified. H&S keeps it stock, so no modification. I think I gather enough data to know what to do to keep it cleaned and maintained. Thanks for the heads up.

And many do, and Deltec still wont replace them when they burn out. Deltec's customer service issues as regards to the Aquabee pump are legendary.

Congrats on your new skimmer. Take care of it, and you should have it around for many years to come. I have the same one and am happy with it's performance. Money well spent.

Deltec Rules,

How much RO water do you pour down the tube? Is the pump running what you do this?
I poor about 4-5 ounces of warm RO water. You can get away with less but hey doesn't hurt to over due it.

The eheims tend to be quieter than the AB's. Also, the AB's have a flap on the inside that seems to get stuck if it isn't maintained properly. The eheims don't have this flap.

I have run both. I thought the AB was a little loud, but I never had any problems with the flap. Its performance was great. With said, I like the eheim pump much more because its quieter.

Either one will work fine. Deltec is a great company with great products.

Jim
