Demos for August

What kind of demos do you want to see for August?

I will do a chemistry demo on test kits. Which I was not able to do last meet. I would still like to see the Overdriven bulb demo since I could not make the last meet. I also would like to talk about refugiums, why they are important and why macro algaes are useful in an aquarium.

Hey Phil!
The auto top off demo was a big hit, we need it again, and I'd like to see the light demo based on a 48 inch light hood.

Ok, I have been asked by several people about doing a ODNO setup for a standard 48" tank (55g, 75g, or so on) so here is what I'm thinking. If someone whats a nice canopy and light I will do it again if they want to buy all the parts and help me document the whole project with pic's and price break down of each part. I will put the whole thing together and someone will get a nice lighted canopy for cost. This was my first demo and I'm sure I could have done better had I had some help and someone taking notes and pic's. I'm learning as I go. I'm use to just building what I need and going on. Not use to trying to explain how it all works. If someone is interested lets see just how cheap we can do it without sacraficing quality.

Perhaps everyone in the club could donate and then put the light on ProJect Reef Tank. If it ends up putting out more light than a 4 x 55 watt PC fixture. Which is what is on it right now.

Just a thought.

what about some sort of coral fragging demo?

What do you want to frag? Some frags take a long time to heal and reattach, ie leathers, mushrooms, etc. SPS are usually an easy frag, LPS are easy if they branch.

I think I would like to see a Plate coral fragged. However, I do not have the guts to frag one. If someone has one they would donate for demos, I think I know how to frag it. The only person I know of that seems to have a endless supply of reproducing plate corals is Randy. Maybe he would donate one for a demo. Of course this coral could not be fragged at the meet without being rubberbanded a few weeks prior to the meet to kill off tissue in the area to be fragged.

I have recieved one PM about building the ODNO hood so I'm going to wait and see where this goes before I look into anything else.

What about a talk on dosing chemicals in the reef tank. I get confused when shopping for additives. There's so many. What's necessary and when. Do different salt mixes cause a requirement for different additives? Is dosing different from tank to tank, depending on what animals are in your tank? Advantages of kalk vs. bottled in different situations?

I like the refugium talk idea a lot!!!

gsergent mentioned an auto top off demo.
I would love to see an auto top off demo, but I hate to second that and happen to not be able to show up for the meet. But either way, it sounds like it may benifit others.
