Dendro or Balano?

I picked this coral up and was wondering if it's a dendro or a balano. It's base is about the diameter of a nickle and has 3 smaller heads behind it, but none of them are touching the main coral, they are growing from the rock.

agreed, dendro. I would go grab a couple emerald crabs if i were you to handle that bubble algae, it can get bad if you dont knock it out asap

Oh it's bad alright, lol. I tried emerald crabs, but instead of eating the mountains of bubble algae they decided to snack on my birdsnest colony. I'm going to do several water changes soon and rock by rock try getting them off without busting.

This is a dendro for sure. Balano's feelers are more on the clear side. Nice light colored dendro looks light yellow/pink.

Thanks. When the polyps are barely open they are more orange, but when they are fully open they are more like a pale yellow. I've been feeding it rod's food every day for the past week, but I'm going to switch to PE Mysis because the rod's food just makes my tank way to dirty. And yes, right around the base of the polyps it does have a pinkish purple hue to it which I found interesting.

You have to be careful with Rod's Food. It's very rich and a little goes a long way. The bubble algae we're seeing in that photo suggests that you might have water-quality issues beyond what food may or may not be causing. Consider taking steps, beyond adding a couple of crabs, to clean out those bubbles and starve any future growth.

That one dendro head probably just needs a couple of mysis shrimp every couple of days. Rod also offers a Pacific Plankton product that you might find to be better than Mysis since it's a marine food source. Mysis is a freshwater animal.
